In this instructable I will show you one of my experiments with huge lens and powerful led. I hope you will like it :)

It is the second flashlight that I build, this second flashlight is a throw flashlight that can light the clouds. I tested it at 1,5 miles and the light was bright at this distance. The flashlight is build with powerful xhp 70 cree led powered by led regulator circuit and huge lens.

In the future I will test a monster 500w led and the huge lens that you can see in the last picture

Step 1: Materials

This type of lens could be an option.

(Not sure if this would require adding cooling to the lens liquid to avoid cooking the lens...)

. That is a good idea, it may work. I don't think that cooling is needed.

Seeing as the lens is at the top of the list of components, and henceforth the most important, what diameter is it, and how thick is it in the very centre? This is an important detail that is missing from your instructable... Also, where did you get the lens and how much did it cost?

Hello, sorry to be late, the 3 lenses are Optical Glass Plano Convex
Condenser Lens. There are three lenses size that I used. The first one
is 13 cm diameter and I recovered it from a Krokus photo enlarger.
Second one is 20 cm diameter. The big one is 32 cm diameter. The second
and the third are recovered from old, broken theater reflectors. If you have more questions please ask, I am glad to answer.

Hello, there are 2 flashlights, the one in the first video has xhp70 ked, the one in the second video has 100w led. I also made one instructable for it , you can find it on my profile.

I hope that you have placed lead eye contacts in the child's eyes before you foolishly let him/her play around with that serious quantity and intensity of light. Consult a therapist!

Do you have sources for your materials? Primarily lenses and LED lightsource. Thanks. :)
ImpactDIY (author)  waynoedm8 months ago
Hello :), led model is XHP70, you can find led and led driver on ebay, aliexpress etc. The lens are from a krokus photo enlarger (small one), and from theater reflectors (middle and big one)
